I have had a good look around the forums for assistance with this kind of problem and found one or two which unfortunately didn't help...
I bought my 1998 528i SE last night and one key works fine. However, the 2nd one will not open the car remotely.
The LED on this 2nd key flashes when you press a button, just as the other key does and I have tried replacing the key's battery and dismantled the key to check for connections etc and still no luck.
The key will open and lock the driver's door manually and start the engine but if the car is locked with the alarm set it has no effect when I try to unlock the main door/disable alarm using the remote butons on the key. I have tried locking/unlocking the boot remotely and also tried locking the car remotely but these do not work either.
Anyone have any ideas or does it just need the remote settings reset at a BMW dealer for that key? If so how much are they likely to sting me?
Any help would be appreciated as it is over 40 miles to my nearest BMW dealer!!
