I average 30mpg mostly b road driving, very little city driving. On a run at 65mph you should see nearly 40mpg. (N52B25)

In London I might get 18-20mpg. But mine is a manual. You should get a little better than 15mpg though.

Oil consumption is a problem on these cars. Mine was using 1L/1500 miles but I did the Oil filter and cooler gaskets (Not too hard DIY...budget a few hours especially if you drain coolant first) ...now using 1L/2000 miles or so...but still not good. I could see the oil leak in the oil cooler gasket from visual inspection. Visually my valve cover gasket seems fine. So im left with either the sump gasket (didnt see much evidence of this when i had the tray off), the back of the valve cover gasket where i cant see it, the CCV system (probably most likely culprit) or more worryingly the piston rings or valve stems (but I see no blue smoke at all.) - so check all those areas if you can for leaks?

Yeh but an E92 weighs 150kg more than a Z4.

Sue's 840 is 2 tons, has a 4.4 V8 she does no long runs and even she gets 17 mpg!

Something definitely wrong to only get 15 mpg

    :-o

Thanks, i will get the sump gasket looked at, I was recently on the motorway for about 60 miles at 70 mph and the best I could reach was only 21mpg, a lot less then what you're getting :(

With regards to the oil leaking from the oil cap, I have had a browse online have also found out that it is a common problem, have read that some people have taken the rubber ring off to give it a good clean and it did solve the problem, so I will probably give that a try. I have taken the engine cover off and the only area where there was oil was around the oil cap, spark plugs seemed fine when I changed them (apart from being burnt and brown)

I see an average of 17 mpg from a supercharged V8 and I don't drive like Miss Daisy
Thanks, I will have a look into that.

Thanks for the response, I have read up that they do consume a lot of oil too but I think mines is a lot more than it should, I will try having a look into the areas you've mentioned

Thanks for all the feedback guys, appreciate it!

I will change the oil and air filter this week and will see if this makes a difference, will also check the other areas people have mentioned. I was also considering to take it to the main dealer for a check if nothings improves but I know it will probably cost a fortune! That being said I do really need to sort something out as the oil and petrol top ups are eating away at my wallet

I stand corrected - 21mpg on the motorway is awful.

Check your brake calipers aren't sticking!

Could be a fuel problem. Get a wifi obd scanner and Carly BMW app. Look for problems with fuel mix - 'might be running rich?

Don't take it to a main dealer - total waste of money if you don't have a warranty. Find a good specialist bmw garage - plenty out there depending where you live?
