    What about a vauxhall corsa. Cheap insurance, tax and running costs. No BMW is cheap to maintain and there is no gurantee something wont go wrong.

    @sayekm - yes but by its very nature a 4 cylinder 2.0 is working harder than a 6 cylinder 3.0 to do the same acceleration onto say a motorway- regardless of the driver. Bigger engines therefore tend to have had easier lives... especially when hooked up to a slush box because who can ever be bothered to drive that hard.

    You can't go wrong with a low mileage Kia ceed 1.4 petrol.

    Thats a very good car. The 1.8i VTEC engine bulletproof. For £3000 you should be able to pickup the new new shape I think starts from 2007.
    I have previously owned Honda Accord, older civic and very old Concerto. They go on forever and cheap to maintain.

    My first car was 4th gen civic 1991, was very good car so I will back again on honda insurance as well not very expensive about 60£/months
