    Hi,

Ok, this topic seems to an issue that's been well talked about, the solution seems to be to buy & install blanking plates as a preventive measure, on older models.

    But how about a 2011 325d ?

I recently bought a obd adaptor to code some features on the car & I also ran diagnostics after which i got error 'Swirl flap, plausibility: mechanically defective'.

I know that this model as an electronic swirl flap set up but can a swirl flap still be ingested ? Also, is there any other solution other replacing the whole Intake manifold which costs £800+vat: jaw-dropping from MD ?

    Any advise greatly appreciated !

    Thank you

These n57 engines are suffering from worn swirlflaps like the rest of the bmw range

The exhaust gasses (soot)that enter the intake manifold via the Egr valve sticks the the oil in the intake manifold which then causes the flap rod to wear against the plastic parts in the manifold

We offer a swirlflaps removal on these cars
And on the cars where the swirlflaps are still good we can set the Egr to stay closed to stop the soot entering the intake manifold

If its a 325D manual then no swirl flaps, if it's 325D Auto then indeed swirl flaps you can check with your engine code on real OEM and see what manifold you have. Luckily mine doesn't

    Hi,

Just to give other owners an update on my issue.

This model has electronically actuated swirlflaps. The flaps are clean an move freely so it appears I have a lazy motor. The unit is around £240, main dealer only.

As the error comes & goes & doesn't affect performance i'll hang on a bit to see if i can pick one from the breakers !
