This is all the info about the dpf regen, the differant types, the engine temps, exhaust temps and wat fault codes stop a regen happening this is a 5 page pdf sent direct from bmw uk's head office, if the mods see this as good info feel free to make it a sticky as many people are unsure about the regen and there is much speculation about wat needs to be acheived, this confirms and bins many theorys out there and turning theorys in to facts. Hope this helps people understand the regen and wat needs to be done to avoid spending many pennys on costly repairs

If this one dose not display all five then plz try this one

Saved, that's really helpful. Thanks very much, so nothing about glowplugs or egr thermostats. Could have saved myself some cash there, owell! Just to confirm the "325d or higher" pertains to the 330d engine yes?

At last the facts. Thanks mate that is a brilliant document and would have saved me loads of reading and time learning about regens with a laptop on the passenger seat!

    Opinions now dispelled

    1. Glow plug faults prevent regen
    2. Regens only happen at constant speeds above 60
    3. You need 10 litres of fuel above the warning light foe a regen
    4. Any fault code will prevent regeneration

However what is certainly true is that if a sticking thermostat prevents the coolant temp going above 75c, this will stop a regeneration. I think this is likely to be the biggest cause of a blocked dpf and is something BMW should have put a warning light on the dash for.

So KEEP A REGULAR CHECK OF YOUR COOLANT RUNNING TEMP........

Hi, I've only posted a couple of times on here, so pretty new! I started a topic but have no replies, could either of you guys help please?!

    I have a 320i e93, sulphurized catalytic converter.

What I have read is I need to drive the car at speeds greater than 68 mph for 25+ mins with more than ½ tank of fuel and the regen should happen automatically during that period. Do I have to stay above 68mph for the full 25 mins?! I tried doing this at the weekend but had to slow down a couple of times for traffic. If so I shall have to try again late at night when no cars are on the motorway! Also is there a way of finding out if it has worked? Thanks!
