Is this true a new 3 series in 3 years time?

Yes - cars have a 7 year cycle, look at all BMW's

    1 series:

    E87 2004 to 2011
    F11 2011 onwards (presumably to 2018)

    3 Series

    E46 1998 to 2005
    E90 2005 to 2012
    f30 2012 onwards (presumably to 2019)

    5 Series

    E39 1996 to 2003
    E60 2003 to 2010
    F10 2010 to 2017

    7 Series

    E38 1994 to 2001
    E66 2001 to 2008
    F01 2008 to 2015
    G22 2015 onwards (presumably 2022)

Do you not see a trend?

On top of that, you can see where facelifts happen also, most commonly in between year 3 and 4, a true mid life refresh to keep the car on the market for a couple more years.

Hi how did you get on?
You may want to ask for a PCP deal so the BMW dealer will tell you the residual value? New model will impact resale, but really only those cars that are registered close to the new model. By 3 or 4 years your car will be into a different used market and not nearly new market. Plus your options and M sport plus pack will help it's resale.

335ds hold their value better than the rest of the range currently, so in 3 years time it will still probably be worth over 20 grand.

    BMW 335d xDrive M Sport - Doncaster

less than 3 years old and £23.5k.

Factor in the newer model - you'll get borderline £20k, if you part ex, will be less

Although I agree with what you say sjak that's a pretty basic 335d and regardless of what people say about options they do command quite a premium on BMs

    BMW 3 SERIES 3.0 335d M Sport Sport Auto xDrive 4dr (start/stop)

I should be talking them down - I'm planning my next car in a couple of years to be a 'fully loaded' F31 335d @ 4 or 5 years old

I agree, it all depends on the spec but the car you linked is way over priced in my opinion

    Not if you're selling!

Point being, with a figure somewhere in between, £20k+ may not be as borderline but at this stage it's all hypothetical, finger in the wind, (un)educated guesswork anyway

29k for a car that's over 3 years old 14 plate is expensive. The one I was looking at is Brand New zero miles with extras such as BMW Professional Plus Media Package / 19" M Double Spoke Style 442 M Alloy Wheels / M Sport Plus Package / Heated Front Seats / Apple CarPlay Preparation / Brushed Aluminium Interior Trim with Black Accents 31k 3 years BMW warranty
