One more thing; on the m47 if the exhaust tip is turned down the car won't have a DPF - which is a major bonus (for the owner, not the locale)

Yes I definatly want a non DPF version. My last car had one.... not good.

Another Q... Injectors do they fail? There is one local to me, up for 5k, but had 4k spent on it last year including 4 new injectors...?

The injectors usually fail on very high milers in my opinion. The car you are referring to was probably done on advise from the garage to change all 4 instead of either getting a single one etc or running Forte cleaner through etc. A bonus if done already tho.

Both main and EGR thermostats will need changing if not been done, there is a guide somewhere to find the hidden menu to check temps. Its also a good idea to clean or change the engine breather at 100k.
I had my E91 for 6 years and it was very reliable, apart from the turbo going I only replaced basic stuff like brakes, discs, battery, stats and tyres. I did change the maf and map sensors but didn't need doing.

Oh yeh get the breather filter done. If it gets clogged it can cause oil problems and blow the turbo.

Injectors not a major issue. A car with four new ones sounds like a top buy!

Find something someone no longer 'trusts' after it blows the turbo and you get a nice new turbo

My 2007 had a turbo on 90k miles from BMW and a new one at 128k miles and guess what? The company who fitted the second one was not BMW but also changed the vortrex crank breather also! And they say they know them inside out.

mine is an 07 320d with the M47 motor. it had it's first clutch and DMF at 178k. it's on 187K now, honestly feels like a 60K car. it had the DSC unit at 150K, electric steering lock problem/software issue a couple of months back, other than that, according to past service records it's just needed the usual discs/pads/service items. it's not an M sport but has 18's on, bit of road roar and it's best to steer round potholes to save your fillings! think i've got a dicky glow plug or 2, so on these frosty mornings it chugs a bit for about 5 seconds.

Thanks guys. I was warned about the breathers and turbos so I will look into this too.

BTW, if anyone knows of a good one up for sale...?

OK, I have found one, a 57 plate up for 5k on autotrader if you want to poke your nose.

It has had new steering column, turbo, breather, swirl flap mod, and 4x injectors all basically in the last year. Should this raise suspicions?
