I'm just concerned as my mpg as what the computer tells me is really low, the most it's ever hit is 34mpg and right now on my tank of vpower its averaging 30mpg as to what the computer is saying? I've done mixed motorway and stayed local aswell.

The car is error free when it was plugged in but whats odd is whenever I start the engine after about 10 seconds It makes a quick beeping sound then the sound goes away. Done a check and it says check ok and shows no lights. No idea if this is related to my MPG issue (could me my brand new key fob that will only unlock the car when I'm right by it!)

Poor mpg and performance could be..
    1. Blocked or glogged injectors (Chuck a bottle of Forte in your tank)
    2. Dirty air filter
    3. MAF sensor is on its way out so car will be sluggish and poor mpg (Does not always show on an engine scan)
    4. Clean the MAP sensor at the rear of the inlet manifold just under windscreen scuttle
    5. Poor quality fuel such as supermarket diesel
    6. Give the car a good thrash with the V power in plus Forte to clear all the carbon deposits. Did this on my car and the average mpg went from 28 mpg (I mainly do short distances) to 37 mpg and hasnt dropped any lower since.
    Lots to check.

Also check and clean the EGR and the oil breather filter.

My m47 318d always did at least 48mpg mixed driving... so you should be getting s lot better than that.

I was told to check the thermostat also.. I'm gonna get the Temp reading up tomorrow for my commute and I'll see how close to 90 I get. I'm gonna put in injector cleaner when I next fuel up and if no change, a full service. My tyres are 17" run flats and my PSI is 30 all around?

Also my two rear run flats are pretty much almost illegal tread, could that be the answer to my 29mpg? Surely that can't make that much of a big drop..

Nope having nearly illegal tyres would probably reduce rolllong resistance and improve mpg!

    I thought so, IMG_9001.jpg

Did an 14 mile trip into Birmingham about 8 miles motorway the car stayed around 75-73, once I got into town and parked up it got to about 84 which was the max I got.

    Thermostats? Or normal?

Cold running, so thinking it needs to be rich mix = less mpg....

535d runs at 100, Boxster runs at 80C, so will depend what your norm should be :-)

Oh and over last 6000 miles the 535d shows 32mpg :-)

Interesting, I'm gonna try switch out both stats and see if there's a difference, today was the worst so far, 25mpg with 20 miles motorway and about 5 local.

Not what I expected from a 318, I was also driving like a little bitch.

I'll give it a good service aswell with the fuel filter and see if that makes any difference. I will update this thread once I do all of that, maybe it might help someone else.

    An update

Ran some injector cleaner in the tank with v power with no luck

Tried DPF cleaner in this tank but if anything it's worse 17mpg

I have no lights or warns on the dash and my oil level seems fine

I've mainly had start stop journeys but with some motorway and still poor MPG
